A château visit, apparently

Nicolas and Sofia arrived at Château de Villette, near Paris, in a vintage Rolls-Royce. He wore a Tom Ford tuxedo; she wore a flowing, patterned dress. Ahead were the château’s pale stone façade, formal gardens, and rooms Sofia believed they had come to visit.

They entered together. Inside, while they were talking, Nicolas slipped away. A message arrived on her phone.

Welcome to the Game of Love

“Welcome to the Game of Love !
To find your first clue, think of where you would eat, A beloved French bite that is really a treat !”

The scavenger hunt began in the blue dining room, where the first clue led Sofia to Ladurée macarons. The next sent her upstairs, with a helpful instruction: “Think RED!”

In the red suite, a card bearing her name waited beside a white rose. She paused to read it by the window. The final note directed her to the gardens, outside the back door. She opened the doors and stepped out.

Nicolas was already waiting

Flowers in peach, pink, and pale blue marked the setting, arranged low along the path and on tall, open frames. Around them, the garden’s long perspective remained visible.

Nicolas stood waiting beside guitarist Peter Deaves, who had written “Love at First Touch” especially for this proposal. As Sofia approached, the music became part of the welcome. Throughout the proposal, Peter’s attention stayed with the couple.

Their Paris proposal planner, Chantelle Streete, had brought together the arrival, the clues, and this meeting in the gardens of Château de Villette.

He knew her preferred side

There was one detail Nicolas had asked us to change.

For the proposal photographs, he stood on the right and Sofia on the left. We would usually suggest the opposite arrangement for a clearer view of the ring exchange. But Nicolas knew which side of her face she preferred in photographs. He wanted that preference to guide the positioning.

He had thought about the photographs she would keep.

Then came his speech. Sofia listened; Nicolas lowered himself to one knee. The ring followed, with Peter still playing nearby.

The way back to Paris

Afterward, Nicolas lifted Sofia into his arms and turned with her, her dress moving around them.

There was time for photographs in the gardens and beside the Rolls-Royce: close embraces, laughter, and portraits with the château behind them.

Then they returned to Paris for dinner, newly engaged. The château visit had given them rather more to remember than Sofia expected. If you are still choosing your setting, explore other places to propose in Paris.
